Jo Frost tackles the issue of kids growing up too quickly

March 9th, 2010 No Comments

Did anyone watch this evening’s episode of  “Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance”?

Jo Frost is the latest celebrity to tackle the issue of kids growing up too quickly. Does the responsibility not lie with us as parents? It is a very interesting and topical discussion.

One of the reasons I setup www.KSBKids.com (Kids Should Be Kids) in 2007

Children's Clothes

was because I felt there was a growing tendency to dress children as mini adults. I wanted to give parents the opportunity to buy “simple”, unbranded, bright coloured children’s clothes. “Happy” children’s tops and childrens t-shirts.

Children's Clothes

Children are really not young for long, so why the need to make this precious time even shorter by allowing them to dress inappropriately?….. am I being old fashioned?  Join Jo Frost’s discussion on her Facebook page.

Following articles and links are worth a read:

‘We are hypersexualising girls, telling them that their desirability relies on being desired…’ Dr Linda Papadopoulos, The Guardian, 25 February 2010

From one worried mother, a passionate call to arms: it’s time to stop the fashion industry dressing girls of ten like this Daily Mail, 11 February 2010

Both Mumsnet and Netmums have also raised the discussion on a number of occasions.

All of the above are interesting and will make you think about the way your child dresses.
