25 Women That Rock Social Media

March 10th, 2010 No Comments

There’s so many power players in the social media and SEO world. So many “gurus”.  Many of the articles, blogs etc I read are often written by men. Please do not think I am on a ”feminist” mission here, - I just stumpled across this article and thought it was worth a mention.

So here is a link to the article featuring 25 women that  “rock” social web. As I said I am not on a feminist mission, just a SEO chick in the making, who read the article with great interest …. did I mention it is written by a man (he, he).

As I work hard to increase my knowledge of SEO, in the hope that www.ksbkids.com will continue to improve its position for children’s clothes, I can only hope that I one day will master just a small franction of what these ladies do.badge 25 Women That Rock Social Media

Social media – can you afford not to?

July 22nd, 2009 No Comments

As some of you will know I am a regular user of the social sites. I simply believe in the power of viral marketing, and sites like Facebook are indeed viral marketing at its best.

Social media appears to be on the path to becoming increasingly mainstream media.  While there is much growth ahead yet, social media is an increasingly big part of many people’s lives.

Social media users tend to be somewhat more female than male.  Close to half are married and another quarter describe themselves as “single, never married.”  They range in age, with a heavier concentration between 18 and 54 years, and heaviest use among 35 to 44 year olds specifically.

Bearing in mind that social media users include more females and males and that quite a few are married, one could assume that social media users include a fair number of moms, as well.  Social media users are found in every household income bracket.

How do these social media users specifically spend their time when using social media sites?

  • Connect with friends – 64.5%
  • Share photos – 39.5%
  • I like to follow my favorite retailers – 8.4%
  • Post ratings or reviews of shopping and dining experiences – 7.0%
  • Reconnect with old classmates / friends – 39.1%
  • Look for sales / promotions / coupons – 17.9%
  • Look for product advice / recommendations – 13.3%

The numbers are still growing – but for online shops like www.ksbkids.com it’s increasingly an opportunity to connect with both existing and new customers, many of whom have real purchasing power and actively want to engage with you.  So can you afford not working the social media sites?

Childrens Clothes and Warwick Business School

June 15th, 2009 3 Comments

Last week I was invited by the b2b centre at Warwick Business School to do a presentation on social media.  I had to present how KSBKids are using social media to increase its online footprint.

What do I know you may ask……….well, very little in fact. But even so the guys down there had invited me a long.

I have had no training on social media, attended no courses on the subject – but I try the best I can to grow awareness of KSBKids through social media. I try things out, evaluate the results and modify and adjust as I go along. It is without doubt a learning process.

Why am I interested in social media? I find it very exciting that a small company like mine can with very limited funds create awareness and increase sales. Traditional marketing channels would not have given me the same opportunities without committing a large budget.

Working facebook, twitter and blog is great for increasing awareness and raising your ranking in the search engines. However, like anything else I think it is important that you define your strategy clearly. What are your goals? What are you actually trying to achieve? How are you gonna do it?

Social media is not something you should just do when you have 5 minutes spare. It takes time, you need to be plan it, be consistent, push your brand awareness and pick the challenges where your customers interact. It is a long process and results will not come immediately.

My target market is to be found on Facebook, consequently Facebook is my main focus. Although Linkedin is great I dont think it will drive customers to my site in the way facebook can. Linkedin is tremendous for advice and building your network. But from a viral marketing perspective I think Facebook will provide the best opportunities for my business. The way Facebook presents “update” is viral marketing at its best.

Finally it is crucial to be consistent. On the www.ksbkids.com website you will see many links to the facebook page  http://www.facebook.com/pages/KSBKids/43020354914 .  Customers can link straight to the facebook fan page, but they also have the option to click the Facebook icon under individual items of children’s clothes which will then show up on their facebook page and be visible to all their friends.

Blog entries can be added to customers Facebook page , delivery notes mentions the Facebook page etc. etc. and I am currently trying to ensure that all these channels (blog, website, facebook) visually look the same. It is coming back to the point raised earlier about pushing the brand.

I believe people like buying from a person – hopefully Facebook will help me to establish a successful online business.

KSBKids and social media.

Twitter, Facebook, SEO, Blog?

May 18th, 2009 No Comments

I am always working, if not working I am running after the kids, food shopping, cutting the lawn etc. I will most like hit the next person who tries to lecturer me on the importance of “me time”.

It is not that I dont believe in “me time” – I would love it!!!!!!!! However, being a single mum, with 2 kids and my own little business “me time” just does not feature at this stage of my life. I wish it did.

It is all about prioritising I am told, but what if you have not even got time to complete the jobs assigned priority 1?

When it comes to my business I struggle a little, there is so much to do. I am told to twitter, blog, write on Facebook and this is on top of all the other things.

Can anyone out there throw a little light on how I possibly can manage to engage in them all and which ones I should focus on?

This questioned is raised by one over-worked working mum!

Is it worth it?

April 18th, 2009 No Comments

Blogging, Twitter, Facebook etc is it all worth it commercially?

Saturday evening, my girls have gone to stay with their dad. Thought I was gonna enjoy a few hours on my own but the loneliness  has kind of crept up on me. Sat here in front of the computer wondering if all the hard work will pay off in the end? When will it pay off and if it doesn’t will I know when to quid?

How very lucky I am to have two healthy children.  Matilda declared today that she loves me more than chocolate cake – now does it get any better than that? Earlier when they were here the house was so noisy, now as I am sat here on my own it is so quiet that it is almost uncomfortable – strange old life!!!!!!!!!!!

Have updated twitter and will work a little on the homepage for www.ksbkids.com  Had an email today from a lady saying £4.95 is far too much to charge for postage………I make absolutely no money on p&p  so how can I possibly charge less.  Postage could be built into the price I guess – but I kind of like being transparent by that I mean that customer can see exactly what they are paying for!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhh I wish I had the answers.
